Often compared to Nebbiolo, Greece's Xinomavro does have fresh acids, modest color and plenty of firm, fine, tannins. But it's fresher and less overtly fruity, if just as delicious with rich foods. This is excellent now - 2027.
"The 2017 Xinomavro Naoussea, the winery's more elegant and approachable Naoussa, was aged for 12 months in a 60/40 mixture of used and new French oak. It comes in at 13.1% alcohol. Since it is a year younger than its sibling, the 2016 in this report, this is predictably fruitier and tighter, the tannins a bit more assertive and the fruit showing some baby fat. When this gets another year (or two) in the bottle, it should become quickly more drinkable, but today it could use that extra year, while the 2016 drinks far better today. Overall, this is another nice value in this fine brand from the winery. It's a perfect choice for a house pour or restaurant wine that has some distinction and won't break the bank."
