Lower ABV Joe and his son Florian craft this cuvee, named for Joe’s daughter, from vines growing on pure, calcium and clay-rich, loess soils on different parts of the Wagram hill. They pick some of these sites early to maximize crispness and green, tangy, fruit notes. Others are harvested late for maximum ripeness, more exotic fruit, and density on the palate. The different picks are fermented in tank and allowed to rest of the fine lees of fermentation for around four months before blending, bottling, and being sealed under protective screw cap.
In the outstanding 2021 harvest, the wine is pretty much everything you'd expect from a $40+ Gruner Veltliner - except the price. The aromas are big and rich, showcasing ripe yellow pear, lemon pulp, lime zest, sweet spice and classic white pepper scents. On the palate, the perfect balance of creamy richness and sizzling freshness to the fresh peach, pear, and white pepper flavors, picking up hints of orange peel, tart peach and chalk on the long, mouthwatering, finish. With air the texture deeps, but the lime and tangy peach flavors keep it so fresh and vibrant. We've loved this wine every vintage we've had it, but the 2021 is clearly our very favorite yet.
