Since she and her husband, Craig, acquired St. Helena Bergfeld Winery in 2003 and re-opened as HALL St. Helena in July of that year, Kathryn Hall has emerged as a true force in Napa Valley Cabernet. Today they operate one of Napa’s most beautiful wineries (the modern art almost overshadows the wines) and make big, lush, yet impeccably balanced Cabernet from sites across the Valley. This is their top wine based on lush fruit from Sacrashe Vineyard in Rutherford with additions from select high mountain sites for structure and precision. The 2019 shows all the richness and breadth fans have come to love with a new level of focus, energy, drive and minerality. You’ll love it tonight (especially with 2 hours of air) and over the next 15+ years.
"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot, brought up mostly in new barrels. It’s a killer bottle of wine offering lots of ripe black fruits intermixed with savory herbs, melted chocolate, and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it shows the lush, round, velvety style of the 2019 vintage and is already impossible to resist. It’s going to evolve for 15+ years if well stored."
"Rich and fleshy in feel, but with a nice juicy edge for balance, this lets creamed plum and blackberry fruit spill forth, laced liberally with mocha, singed alder, sweet tobacco and melted black licorice. For the hedonist crowd."
“The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall is bright and nicely focused, with fine energy and tons of class. In 2019, Kathryn Hall is effusive and soaring in its aromatics, distinctly red-toned in its fruit profile and less heavy than the 2018 in this tasting. Does this signal a new era for Hall?”
