Perrieres is Mersault's finest 1er Cru vineyard, and the tiny, walled, Clos des Perrieres the finest slice of that. Since Albert Grivault purchased it in 1879, it's been a "monopole" of the Domaine and if it's not quite Grand Cru, it's pretty darn close. Grandson of Albert Grivault, Michel Bardet, has handed off winemaking responsibility to his daughter Claire and the wines have never been better. While young, the 2020 Close des Perrieres is wonderfully generous, rich and deep, loaded with ripe yellow pear, juicy stone fruit, toasted hazelnut and tangy fresh butter aromas and flavors. Even now the minerality is evident and will come on even more over the next 20 years as the overt fruit recedes a bit and captivating salted caramel and lemon tart flavors develop. If you drink it now, you'll love it. If you wait a bit, you'll love it even more.
