Organic/Bio La Ligiere is a winery in Beaunes de Venise that has most of its vines in Vacqueyras and makes this wine from grapes grown in Vaucluse. Whew! What you really need to know is that this is delicious Cotes du Rhone-styled red from a top estate that sells for a song. It's about 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah from vines planted around 2010, all harvested by hand, fully destemmed, and then made in concrete tank. You'll find a dark and hearty nose of roasted meat and black fruit that leads to an earthy, black and red-fruited palate that just keeps getting deeper and more fleshy as it sits in your glass. The finish is spicy and a bit fruity, but all the way dry, with food-friendly tannins lending support. The winery recommends pairing with duck or goose. We won't argue, but pork chops and lamb sounds pretty good, too, as does solo sipping while someone else rustles up a meal.
