The Sabon family farms old-vine plots around the center of Chateauneuf, and this - their flagship wine - blends about 75% Grenache with 10% SYrah, 9% Mourvede and 6% a cocktail ranging from Cinsault and Counoise to Terret and Picpoul Noir. Fermentations are long and slow and aging is in a mixture of traditional vats and large, old, oak foudre. It's extra ripe and rich this year, but still easy to drink. A great value in traditional CdP you should not miss.
"From one of my favorite estates, the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape offers a healthy ruby/plum color as well as a stunning bouquet of red and black fruits, Provençal herbs, lavender, and pepper, with some exotic, meaty nuances. The purity here is straight-up brilliant, and the wine is medium to full-bodied, with ultra-fine tannins, a supple, elegant mouthfeel, no hard edges, and a great finish. It's one heavenly, classic cuvée readers will be absolutely thrilled to have in their cellar."
