A great “bistro” red goes from the cozy booth inside a café to the streetside tables you want to sit at on a sunny summer’s day. And Benoit Brazilier’s Tradition Rouge matches up with all kinds of casual foods whether you’re cooking out in the heat or enjoying a bit of refreshing AC on a muggy day.
It’s based on the traditional red grape of the middle-Loire, Pineau d'Aunis. A favorite of French and British royalty in the 17th century, it still delivers a nicely plump mouth feel, plenty of black cherry and blackberry fruit and a distinctive savory cracked black pepper spice. Around 40% Cabernet Franc adds some crunchy cherry, spice and wild herb and a dash of Pinot Noir keeps things smooth and fresh. At once gutsy and easy, it can take a chill if you want and add to the fun of every summer picnic, cookout and sunset.
