Description of Tasting:

If you want to enjoy some great wines and get to know one of our favorite wine pros in the DMV, come meet and taste with Matt Perrella from Dionysos Imports this Friday from 3-7pm.  Dionysos was one of the very first importers in the DC area to introduce wine fans to the joys of Greece’s native grapes and Matt will showcase some favorites on Friday. And because there’s more to Dionysos than Greece, he’ll also be sharing a favorite Languedoc red from two Burgundy masters and a pretty darn brilliant Willamette Valley Pinot, too.

Join Matt from 3-7pm Friday and taste:

Moraitis Assyrtiko Cyclades Sarakinko 2023 – From a small, rocky, vineyard on Paros, a quick boat ride from Santorini, this delivers a punchy fennel and lemon zest punch on the nose and adds a dollop of lime juice on the fleshy palate that builds to a zippy, mouthwatering and lightly salty finish.

Parpinello Vermentino di Sardegna Sessantaquattro ’64 2024 – Another island wine, this time from Sardinia! Zesty citrus and stone fruit aromas and flavors pick up savory notes of Sardinia’s wild scrub and seashore.

Martin Woods Vineyard Pinot Noir Hyland 2022 – From one of the oldest vineyards in the Willamette Valley and own-rooted vines planted in 1988/89, this is silky, pure and wildly delicious. As Decanter says in the 96 point rave, “Simply elegant, I guess that's what they call a classic."

Skouras Saint George Agiorgitiko Nemea 2023 – Agiorgitiko gives wines ranging from light and fruity to dark and dusky, but always with lots of color and plush tannins.  This example sees time in small oak, adding a smoky/vanilla sheen to the black cherry and plum fruit.  Delicious!

Dom Jean-Paul Tollot et Anne Gros la 50/50 2023 – What happens with two Burgundy winegrowers join as a couple to create a new estate in the Languedoc’s sunny Minervois region?  This: a darkly fruited, gutsy, wine with remarkably sleek and pure texture.  In short, a compellingly delicious and well-made 50/50 collaboration.

With the wines, a favorite cheese:  Cowgirl Creamery Hop Along. Take 100% organic cow’s milk cheese and age it for 45 days, washing the rind daily with hard cider. The result is a spongy, semi-firm, delight with flavors ranging from brioche and toasted nuts to creamy yogurt. A delicious nibble to enjoy with Belgian beer, cider and – of course – great wines!

Come try the wines and pairings for yourself this Friday from 3-7pm. Meet Matt and discover some new favorite sips and bites!
