As we look ahead to summer fun, great value wines are what you want to stock up on. And as we look ahead to Jim Anderson’s visit on Sunday, Patricia Green Pinot is on our mind. Come sample both along with a thrilling high-altitude Nebbiolo this Friday from 3-7pm as we taste: False Bay Cinsault Mourvedre Whole Bunch Rose 2024 - Provence-style rose from Cinsault and Mourvedre grown in coastal Stellenbosch sites. Picked by hand, pressed as whole clusters, fermented with native yeasts and aged in steel and old oak cask, it's bursting with crunchy peach and strawberry fruit. Encostas do Lima Vinho Verde Schist 2024 – Deliciously dry Vinho Verde from a steeply sloped schist vineyard overlooking northern Portugal’s Lima River. Loads of passionfruit, lemon and orange blossom aromas and flavors and just a refreshing touch of CO2 for lift. Encostas do Lima Vinho Verde Granite 2024 – Same grapes and place, but from a nearby vineyard laced with granite rock. This shows more green fruit- peach, lime, Granny Smith apple – and a bit more breadth to the long, dry, lightly spritzy finish. Patricia Green Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vyd 2022 - Hard to find this much Pinot quality for under $30! As Vinous says, it's "vividly fruit-focused yet crisp in feel, with tactile minerals adding a crunchy sensation as tart red and blue fruits swirl throughout." Terrazzi Alti Valtellina Superiore Sassella 2021 - Jacquelyn and Doug love this high-altitude Nebbiolo with splashes of local grapes. Pure fruit, fine tannins, lovely perfume - cool stuff! With the wines, Jose goes to week 3 in his exploration of Gouda with Jan & Roos Van Schie Wilde Weide Gouda. It’s a traditional Boerenkaas (farmhouse) Gouda on a lake island known as Zwanburgerpolder in the south of Holland aged 15-18 months. Plenty of caramel and crunch here with a long, savory, almost buttery, finish. |
