Mixing things up this weekend with one of our favorite pros in the wine trade taking the tasting table on Saturday. Amanda Page runs the Mid-Atlantic operations of Banville Wine Merchants, supplier of many of our very favorite wines from Italy. But Banville’s reach is broader than “just” Italy, and we’ve invited Amanda to show off a terrific German Riesling and the elegant and very exciting Napa Cabernet of Diana Snowden Seysses. Join us and Amanda from noon-4pm on Saturday to try: Cordero San Giorgio Pinot Grigio Katari 2021 - Pinot Grigio from Lombardy with a green dragon on a black label; doesn't sound promising, does it? But the wine is terrific, kind of Pinot Grigio for Chablis drinkers. Bassermann-Jordan Riesling Pfalz 2022 - With more than 300 years of history, the Jordan family is one of the most important and influential estates in Germany's Pfalz region. This is a great introduction to their work in the off-dry style. It tastes and feels great with so much energy it fairly spritzes on the palate, lifting flavors of ripe lime, tart peach, and crunchy rocks that have much more presence than the 9.5% alcohol suggests. Donatella Cinelli Colombini Rosso di Montalcino 2022 - 100% Sangiovese Grosso grown in the heart of Brunello country, but on soils and with farming specifically chosen to give more flavor early and immediately appealing structure. There’s an extra dose of rich black fruit with superfine tannins and floral complexity. Tolaini Tenuta S. Giovanni Valdisanti Toscana 2018 - A compelling 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cab Franc from the heart of Chianti. As James Suckling says in his 94 point rave, "Crazy nose of blackberries and red chilies follow through to a full-bodied palate with chewy yet polished tannins that expand in the mouth, giving it a velvety texture. Extremely long and flavorful." Snowden Cabernet Sauvignon The Ranch 2019 - Diana Snowden is married to Jeremy Seysses and makes the wine at his family's Dom Dujac in Burgundy as well at her family's Snowden in Napa. As you'd expect, this is Napa Cab of uncommon purity and elegance. We love it. We'd love to hear what you think! It’s a really compelling set of wines for sipping, sharing and even holiday entertaining. Come join Amanda and our team and try them all! |
