Organic/Bio From ancient vines in a steep vineyard full of decaying terraces, Martin Mittelbach crafts this blend of at least 11 different grapes - mainly Grüner Veltliner, Weissburgunder, Welschriesling, and Chardonnay with splashes of Riesling, Rotgipfler, Zierfandler, Sylvaner, Traminer, and Neuburger. Grown, picked and fermented together, the wine is a wild blend of super rich ripeness and crunchy green and citrus freshness. It coats your palate but is wildly fresh and dry and while you can sit with a glass for an hour of contemplation, it's even better at able with pretty much any food you throw at it.
Austria's Falstaff's 92-94 point early rating is spot on: "Medium yellow green. Delicate herbal notes, somewhat tobacco like, a hint of yellow stone fruit, candied orange peel, attractive bouquet. Elegant, balanced acidity structure, ripe apple notes on the finish, fine minerality, long-lasting, versatile." A rarity and a treat.
For You If: You're a bit of an explorer and don't confuse richness of fruit and flavor with sweetness (it's only 2.5 g/l RS, so below the level of perception); you want a brilliant and unconventional pairing with seared scallops, fried chicken or anything with a bit of salty, savory, crunch.
