From a 60-40 blend of Trebbiano Toscano and Malvasia Bianca dried on mats and allowed to oxidize during long aging in cask, this is nutty, sweet, and captivating.

“More savory than sweet and quite intense, the 2010 Vin Santo del Chianti Caratello opens with a mix of brown spice, dried blood orange, chestnuts and a dusting of cinnamon and clove. It’s velvety and weighty with a flourish of butterscotch up front that gives way to spiced-candied apples and dark maple syrup hints. Through it all, zesty acidity maintains an admirable balance. The 2010 tapers off slowly and sultry in style with a vivid note of salted caramel that lingers for up to a minute. Gorgeous.”
