What a stunning wine! It's 100% Cannonau, the name used for Grenache on the Island of Sardinia, from 40 year-old vines and made all in concrete and steel. There's a lot going on in this wine of almost creamy mouthfeel but deep vibrancy and cut and showing bold ripe raspberry/strawberry fruit with hints of spice and cracked black pepper. Excellent freshness and a touch of citric bite drive the long finish where a captivating black tea note peeks out.
This is always one of Sardina's most highly rated Cannonau and better than ever in 2023. The 91 point Suckling write-up captures it nicely: "Red cherries, raspberries, dried Provencal herbs and dusty stones on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied with cedar, sweet red fruit and polished, silky tannins leading to a clean finish touched by cedar." The fact that Cannonau is full of antioxidant-rich anthocyanins and polyphenols and has been cited as contributing to Sardinians’ legendarily long life spans? Well, we can promise drinking this will make you live longer. But you’ll be living very well indeed!
For You If: You're after a red that is fully ripe and ready to handle almost any food but still feels fresh, easy and lively; you like Grenache's ripe red fruit flavors and want that in a wine more minerally and fresh than you normally find in places like the Southern Rhone.
