Lower ABV Winegrowing in the tiny valley of Crema between Valle d'Aosta and the rest of Italy dates from Roman times when the legions posted there terrace the valley walls and built stone and wood pergolas to hold the precariously perched vines. Today Carema DOC wine is all Nebbiolo, but in the 18th and 19th centuries gapes were more diverse. Like this, a blend of around 60% Nebbiolo and the rest Neyret, Ner d'Ala, Vernassa and others from 50 year-old vines the winery found in old, abandoned, sites. I'm not going to try to describe it, other than there's a savory cast to the flavors, an almost ethereal texture, and a fine, firm, finish. A delicious taste of history.
For You If: Certainly if you want a delicious, elegant, almost Burgundy-like textured wine with wild and unusual flavors; you'd like to taste a bit of Piemonte history.
Not For You If: You don't like to experience new flavors in wine - the grapes here don't track exactly to what you're used to, and if you give them a little time, you just might have a new favorite!
