Lower ABV If you were going to drink Austrian red wine for Thanksgiving, it would be Zweigelt, Austria’s own red grape that packs in plenty of fruit and fun. In the hands of winemaker Marlies Hanke, it turns out Zweigelt makes the perfect Thanksgiving rosé as well! This is 100% Zweigelt in the super-premium Kremstal region, just across the Danube from Wachau. It’s picked early to keep things fresh, given a few hours of contact between the juice and skins in the press for color, and then fermented cool and easy in stainless steel until it’s crisp, juicy and bone dry.
The wine is beautiful with a pale coppery pink color that will look stunning on your Thanksgiving table. Subtle scents of early-picked strawberry, cherry and fresh herbs pull you in nicely. Then it’s super crisp and fresh on the palate with more strawberry and herb flavors lifted by squeeze of lime and wonderfully salty, dusty, minerality. It's mouthwatering and easy, vibrant and generous and carries enough fruit to handle Thanksgiving dinner with ease. Plus a salty, bone dry, finish that invites pre- and post-dinner sipping. All at a nicely modest 12% alcohol, perfect for a day when you may just have more than one glass.
