Lower ABV “What’s up, d’Oc?” is the kind of thing Randall Grahm might say, an organically grown carrot, dangling from his lower lip, pressed into service in lieu of a Gauloise, as he begins a conversation about this gloriously fresh and delicious pink wine. It’s a typical Graham madness – 38% direct press Grenache, 34% saignée Cinsault, and a whopping 28% Tibouren, the best rosé grape you’ve never heard of. All from cool California sites and made in steel with no malo and zero residual sugar.
We’d quote from the very nice reviews – 90-93 points – of past releases, but they really don’t apply here as the Tibouren component has grown from 2% in 2024 to nearly one-third of the wine this year. It’s a flamboyant, star-bright, pink in the glass with generous aromas and flavors of strawberry, peach, watermelon and peppery spice. All balanced by something not often seen in California pink wines – decisive salty minerality that makes your mouth water and start immediately longing for another sip. This pairs with any food imaginable and with no food at all. Yum.
For You If: You like pink wine of any kind – it’s light and fresh enough for Provençal fans, has enough substance for lovers of darker pinks like Tavel or Bandol, and is dry and crisp enough for enjoying with or without food.
