Lower ABV Petite Chablis is the name given to Chablis vineyards just a touch too high in altitude or with cooler microclimates than the vines awarded the “village” Chablis status. In warmer, dryer, years like 2022, that can actually be an asset! Like here in a tiny production (350 cases) bottling from the up-and-coming Orion estate. Pretty crisp apple and citrus fruit with classic Chablis seashell salty minerality and a hint of honeysuckle at the very end. Tasty with food and supple enough to make a delicious and useful house white.
For You If: You’re willing to trade off the extra concentration of village Chablis for a bit more crispness and bite; you like your Chardonnay fresh, bright and oak-free.
Not For You If: You prefer more ripe Chardonnay or the spice and vanilla tones oak aging brings.
