The best Bourgogne Rouge in the shop right now, one of the best we’ve found in years, and a terrific value to boot. Caroline Fyot and Alexia Russo worked in luxury products and finance in Paris before deciding to move to Burgundy and make wine. They earned their oenology degrees in Beaune and worked harvest at Dom Rois Mages with Felix Debavelaere and others before purchasing around 6 HA of vines in Mercurey, Bouzeron, and Beaune and making their first vintage in 2018.
Based on a short tasting at the winery in early 2023, the watchwords here are “authenticity” and “texture.” This is from sites in and around Mercurey with the fruit all destemmed and a modest touch of new oak (if any). Deep blackcurrant and raspberry fruit with touches of earth and spice ride along in a wine that feels both velvety and light. Strawberry fruit builds through a flowing finish where crisp, fine, tannins give support and a hint of savory soy emerges. This will certainly be even better in 2024-2027 or so, but it’s delicious now and deeply satisfying. Really, try this. An estate to watch.
