The 2021 Amulet Cabernet Napa AE 2021 easily delivers on the $80 regular retail price, and at these prices is a heck of adeal. If the fruit comes from where we think it does, it would normally be in a $200 bottle. All they say that it's 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 5% each Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Merlot from an unnamed vineyard just south of Yountville owned by the Bettinelli family. The Bettinelli family been farming Napa Cab since 1963 and their jewel is Sleeping Lady. Which is just south of Yountville. Hmm.
The wine is delicious, delivering plenty of rich fruit and power in an elegant, almost old-school, frame. Here's how Jeb Dunnuck described in in his 92 point review: "Offering lots of juicy red, blue, and black fruits as well as violets, spicy oak, and tobacco, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, ripe tannins, and outstanding length. Readers looking for an impeccably made Cabernet Sauvignon that won't break the bank will love this."
For You If: You appreciate the richness of Napa Cab interpreted through a more old-school lens - meaning this is ripe but not thick/heavy and built to shine with steak now and just get better as the years roll by.
Not For You If: You're after the powerful grip of mountain Cab or the kind of thickness/richness you get further north in St Helena or Calistoga - this is wonderfully ripe in a stylish, almost elegant, way.
