By this point, most wine fans know there’s a lot more to Beaujolais than Beayujolais Nouveau. When grown on granite soils and made with care (following tradition or breaking from it completely), the Gamay grape reaches very high heights indeed. And remains wonderfully transparent to place at the same time.

In this exploration of Beaujolais, we’ll focus on a selection of the 12 “Crus” – the small regions that each express a different face of Beaujolais Gama. We’ll spend time in the most famous of the crus – perfumed Fleurie, velvety Morgon and stony, structured, Moulin-a-Vent – and visit other sites from the vivacious Brouilly in the south to cool Saint Amor in the north.  You’ll learn about carbonic, semi-carbonic, and “Burgundy” style fermentations, the differences between pink and blue granite, and even why Beaujolais from the famed cellars of Georges Dubœuf smell like banana Runts (really – they do!).  All while getting to know seven great bottles of Beaujolais.

The class takes place in the downstairs classroom of Chain Bridge Cellars at 1351 Chain Bridge Road, McLean, VA 22101. We'll cover seven wines and serve wine-friendly light snacks during the class from 7pm until around 8:30pm. Reservations may be cancelled for full refund up to 48 hours before the event by calling the shop at 703.356.6500.  Reserve your seats today!
