Description of Tasting:

Wines for Independence Day and Beyond is the theme for the tasting table this weekend as we get warmed up for July 4th cookouts, fireworks and more.  Join us from 3-7p on Friday and noon-4pm on Saturday to sample:

Lucien Croche Sancerre Rosé 2021 - 100% Pinot Noir from two different Sancerre terroirs, both Caillottes and Kimmeridgian soils. The flavors are bold, focusing on dark cherry and wild red berry fruit with a nicely mineral edge and just a tiny touch of freshening tannins. The balance of fruit, acidity, texture and minerality is pretty much perfect.

Charles Clement Brut Tradition NV – Last call for our best-selling Champagne of all time at under $30 (the price jumps next week – stupid inflation!). Round and generous on the palate with nice creaminess and plenty of apple, pear, hazelnut and toast flavors that flow on nicely through the fine finish.

Borgo Paglianetto Verdicchio Di Matelica Terravignata 2020 - A genuinely explosive white, redolent of orange and kumquat citrus, crisp apple, tart peach, and layers of salty, stony, minerality. A bite of sour orange, lime pith and zest and more salty mineral drives the very long, sustained, and mouthwatering finish. This is whack-you-upside-the-head delicious.

Dom Du Pas Saint Martin Sous Le Tilleul (Grolleau) 2020 - An utterly delicious, electrically colored, translucent red you'll struggle to resist. Big aromas and flavors of super-ripe strawberry, tart cherry and fresh berry leaf are delivered with lip-smacking acidity and just enough grip. Drink it as a lighter take on Beaujolais or a more robust rosé or just as a rare bottle full of joy.

Ch Fleur Haut Gaussens Bordeaux Superieur 2018 - A big ole comfy couch of a red, full of black currant and blackberry fruit with accents of lead pencil (graphite) and sweet spice all served up on a bed of plush velvet with a just-right freshness and light tannic grip.  It’s delicious right now, ready to pair with grilled lamb, burgers or any mélange of mushrooms.

As always, we’ll have some treats from the cheese case out to sample with the wines and best savings prices available on a mix/match basis during the tastings. Join us to get ready for a big bang of a July 4th celebration!

For the past five years, this has been a terrific Brut Champagne at a crazy good price. And it will still be at a great price next week – just $7 more expensive. The wine comes from a co-op founded in 1959 to help grape... Read More
