Description of Tasting:

Two great tastings this weekend, with Friday featuring some favorite wine values to re-stock your depleted post-holiday wine rack and Saturday showcasing the wines of up-and-coming Mendoza producer Andeluna.  As always we’ll include some treats from the cheese case and best prices on a mix/match basis during the tastings. Worth coming by both days!

White Burgundy and Favorite Values – Friday from 3-7pm

A delicious set of values out to kick-off the weekend.  Come by and try:

Campet Ste Marie Chardonnay Pays d'Oc 2018 – A long-time favorite Chardonnay from the South of France returns with the same fresh flavors and light touch of oak we’ve loved for years plus just a touch more body and roundness in the outstanding 2018 harvest.

Jean-Paul Thibert Macon Fuisse 2018 – The best vintage yet of this “baby Pouilly-Fuisse” that’s been a white Burgundy value star here for hears. And, despite the 25% tariffs, it’s still a great deal in affordable luxury from $16.98.

Andeluna Malbec Uco Valley Raices 2018 – A HUGE amount of wine quality and delight here at a crazy good $11.99 regular price gets even better as we slash the price to just $9.98 by the bottle and $7.98/ea by the case. Juicy, fresh, nicely round and fun to drink solo and with food.

Ken Wright Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2017 – The newest vintage of Pinot-star Ken Wright’s “Bourgogne Rouge” is one of the best we’ve tried yet. Crafted for immediate appeal from the same vineyards Ken uses in his $60+ single vineyard wines, it’s nicely ripe and very easy to drink.

Textbook Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2017 – As the name suggests, this is “Textbook” in its dark, ripe, currant and cherry fruit and nicely spicy touch of oak on the nose and palate.  The only surprise for a Napa Cab this good?  The sub-$30 price!

Get to Know Mendoza’s Andeluna Winery – Saturday from noon-4pm

One of the most exciting developments in Argentina's wine scene over the past decade has been a growing focus on making wines that are both a) really tasty and b) reflect the character of the area they come from. Andeluna was founded to do both a) and b) in the Gualtallary region of Mendoza's Uco Valley. These are all high-altitude wines - starting at 1,300 meters (4,200 feet) - and all reflect the unique combination of unfiltered sunlight, ultra-low rainfall, and chilly, refreshing, nights only found here in the Andes.  Export Manager Nicolás Cricco will be at the tasting table to share the winery story and five terrific wines:

Andeluna Chardonnay 1300 Uco Valley Argentina 2019 - As you'd guess from the label, this nicely rich and fresh Chardonnay comes from high-altitude vineyards (1300 meters elevation) in the Andes. No oak, lots of flavor and a clean, fresh, finish make this very fine value.

Andeluna Torrentes 1300 Uco Valley Argentina 2019 - A great rendition of Argentina's unique and wildly aromatic white grape. Flowers, stone fruit, and a chalky dry finish.

Andeluna Malbec Uco Valley Raices 2018 - From as little as $7.98, this boisterous, joyful, makes you want to drink the whole bottle and not share it with anyone, Malbec is going to end up as one of the very best values of all of 2020. Do. Not. Miss.

Andeluna Cabernet Sauvignon 1300 Uco Valley 2018 - A fun, ripe, spicy take on Cabernet Sauvignon with 3 months of oak influence for complexity and all tank fermentation for freshness and fruit.

Andeluna Malbec Tupungato Altitud 2016 - The review says it all: "Opens up to lovely dried citrus rind, cloves, spices and some very subtle apricot fruit. Medium-to-full body, razor-sharp acidity, some deliciously-fleshy yet pretty mouthfeel and a mineral finish. Drink now."  James Suckling 92 points
