Description of Tasting:

Kudos to Jacquelyn, who put this tasting together. Because it’s just one wildly delicious wine after another. They’re all about warming weather refreshment. Although all will keep your warm and happy during our late-winter/early-spring cold snaps, too!  Here’s the line-up:

Dom Alain Gautheron Bourgogne Blanc 2024 – We’re really covering “Bourgogne” here in a 50/50 blend of Chablis and Macon fruit that delivers the best of both plus a really long finish.

Dom Rois Mages Bouzeron 2023 – Aligote is Burgundy’s “other white grape,” except in Bouzeron where it’s the only grape allowed. The blend of textural richness with citrus/stone cut here is captivating.

Altos Las Hormigas Blanco 2024 – Sure, you were expecting us to pour a Mendoza Valley blend of 52% Semillon, 28% Chenin Blanc and 20% Pedro Gimenez. This one has a touch of nuttiness that isn’t for everyone. If it’s for you, you’ll swoon.

Guimaro Ribeira Sacra Amandi Tinto 2023 – So good year after year, the 2024 edition of this mostly Mencia from the steep sides of the Sil River Valley is light in color and VERY heavy in deliciousness.

Best's Shiraz Great Western Bin No. 1 2020 – If we had it to do all over again, Australia’s Syrah plantings would have been in the Rhone-like Victoria vs the California-like Barossa. A bigger St. Joseph in style but at a lower price.

For nibbles with the wines, you’ve got to try Tête De Moine. A firm cow’s milk cheese made for more than 800 years, it’s salty/tangy by melts smooth and without bite. It’s going to make the whites a little more fruit-filled and the reds softer. And you very happy indeed.
